I will complete 2 years of drafting/architectual eng. at Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD in May of 2010, where I studied mechanical, civil, and architectual enginnering. We have covered a large number of surverys in the short time we learned about civil, ranging from sewer suveys, land topos, intersection surveys, subdivisions and mortgage surveys. I have learned a good amount of knowledge of the GPS, and also the total station. We started from the bottom up using everything from steel tapes, data collectors, prism poles, theadolites, total station, etc. In the class we were very hands on spending appromimately 75 percent of the class time outside surveying. The other 25 was well spent in the classroom learning about the importance of all the equipment and the functions each one will do. Math for slopes was also an important topic we studied and spent quality time discussing, where we learned about cross sections, and plan/ profiles.
