Chris Ambourn, Geospatial Team Leader at Wenck Associates

Chris Ambourn has been working in the surveying profession for 20 years, a journey which has taken him and his family from Wisconsin, to Michigan, back to Minnesota, to Alaska, back to Minnesota, to South Dakota and once again back to Minnesota… from where he vows to never leave again. Chris has a bachelor’s degree in Surveying from Michigan Tech, is licensed in MN, WI, ND, SD and WY and currently serves as NSPS Governor. Chris is the Geospatial Team Leader at Wenck Associates.

Nathan Anderson, MnCORS/RTRN GNSS Administrator at MN Department of Transportation

Nathan is a Senior Land Surveyor with MnDOT. He administers the network, processes, analyzes, and perpetuates CORS station data for submittal to the NGS, MnDOT District’s, Geodetic database, and other parties throughout the nation. Nathan coordinates, conducts and promotes all aspects of the network for inclusion into the NGS NSRS.

Geoff Bitner, Principal Land Surveyor at Minnesota Department of Transportation

Geoff Bitner is a licensed Land Surveyor with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He has more than 20 years of experience in various surveying positions including right of way mapping, platting, and geodetics. Mr. Bitner holds a BS from Salisbury University and a MS from the University of Minnesota.

Ben Bohnsack, Attorney at Rick Noonan

Ben Bohnsack is a shareholder with the Rinke Noonan law firm in St. Cloud, MN. A significant portion of Ben's practice focuses on resolving real estate, boundary and access issues.

Katie Cook, Hydrographic Surveyor at US Army Corps of Engineers

Ms. Cook has been a Minnesota/Wisconsin licensed land surveyor since 2007. She is serving her second term on the MSPS Board of Directors where she has been active on the Public Relations committee. Since 2010 her focus has been hydrographic surveying on the Mississippi River and Western Lake Superior.

Nate Carlson, Survey Leader - Land Division at Westwood

Nate provides leadership and guidance to survey teams within Westwood’s land division, working closely with market leaders on strategic growth opportunities for surveying services in the residential and commercial markets, both within the Twin Cities metro area and across the country.

Preston Dowell, Deputy Land Surveyor - St. Louis County, Minnesota

Preston Dowell is a Deputy Land Surveyor with St. Louis County, Minnesota. He has led the effort to integrate spatially accurate PLSS data into the St. Louis County tax parcel databases.

Mike Dolbow, Data Coordination Supervisor at Minnesota Geospatial Information Office

Mike Dolbow is a GIS Supervisor for MnGeo, where he provides leadership in spatial services for the State of Minnesota. He supervises a team of GIS staff who serve a variety of state agencies and Minnesota stakeholders, with a focus on the Minnesota Department of Health.

Earl Epstein, Professor Emeritus at the School of Environment and Natural Resources, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH

Professor Epstein taught legal aspects of surveying at the University of Maine and GIS, environment, water, and natural resources law and policy at Ohio State.

Wendy Ethen, President of Guaranty Commerical Title, Inc

Wendy is the President and founder of Guaranty Commercial Title, as well as an attorney and MSBA Certified Real Property Law Specialist. Her company is a Certified Woman Owned Small Business. Wendy's passion is affordable housing projects.

Chris Foley, Project Manager at Westwood Professional Services

Chris is a Land Surveyor for Westwood’s St. Cloud land division team. He specializes in client relations and finds satisfaction in helping developers, contractors, and private landowners with the scope, schedule, and implementation of their projects in a timely and cost effective manner.

Matthew Foli, Counsel/Examiner/Chief Wellness Officer at Guaranty Commerical Title, Inc.

Matthew has collaborated with surveyors for over 20 years, first as an attorney in private practice, then as a Hennepin County Deputy Examiner of Titles, and now at Guaranty Commercial Title, Inc.

Sam Gibson, Chief Surveyor at City of Saint Paul Public Works

Sam Gibson PLS, received his initial instruction in surveying at the Inter-Service Engineering School at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri. He received an Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology from the Community College of the Air Force, and his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Northern Iowa.

He has held a variety of surveying positions in Iowa and Minnesota in both private and public sectors. He was licensed as a Land Surveyor in the State of Minnesota in 2006 and has been Chief Surveyor for the City of Saint Paul since 2007. He is an adjunct instructor in Land Surveying for Dakota County Technical College, and since 2016 has lead the St Paul Public Works Survey and GIS Division.

Marcus Hampton, Professional Land Surveyor at James R. Hill, Inc.

Marcus is a Professional Land Surveyor licensed in Minnesota. He is responsible for the management of all survey operations and oversees services including boundary surveys, title analysis, commercial and residential development projects, topographic surveys, and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys. Marcus is active in the Minnesota Society Professional Surveyors and is currently Treasurer of the Society and of the Metro Chapter of the organization.

Jay Haskamp, Sales Support Manager at Frontier Precision Inc.

Jay Haskamp is a Trimble Certified Trainer and the Geospatial Technical Team Manager for Frontier Precision. Jay joined Frontier Precision in 2008 and currently leads their team of Certified Trainers, Support Staff and Services Personnel. He is a Certified UAS Remote Pilot, and has had the opportunity to work with and train Geospatial Professionals throughout the Upper Midwest, Rocky Mountain, and Southeastern regions, Alaska and Mexico.

Dylan Jones, Applied Geospatial Engineer at Frontier Precision, Inc

Dylan Jones is an Applied Geospatial Engineer for Frontier Precision as a Trimble certified trainer, technical support, applications and training specialist. As a graduate from the University of Minnesota with a degree in GIS, Dylan began his geospatial technology career at Frontier Precision in 2014. He focuses his efforts on GNSS, Robotic, LiDAR and Imaging solutions. Dylan currently works out of the Maple Grove office for Frontier Precision.

Samantha Juneau, Deputy Chief Counsel at Minnesota Department of Transportation

Ms. Juneau is the Deputy Chief Counsel in the MnDOT Office of Chief Counsel managing attorneys and staff engaged in legal services and client advice for MnDOT. Prior to this position, she was the supervising attorney in the Office of Land Management where she supervised the acquisition of real estate. Prior to MnDOT, Ms. Juneau was an Assistant Attorney General and advised state agencies in real estate matters and represented them in quiet title actions and Torrens registrations.

Christopher Koch, President of ZoneOne Locating

A Past President of the National Utility Locating Contractors Association, a regular contributor to Damage Prevention Professional magazine, and the co-author of Locating Butied Utilities: A Priofessional Approach, Christopher Koch has presented to thousands of industry professionals across the US. He currently owns and operates his own locating company, ZoneOne and frequently works as a litigation expert.

Len Kne, Associated Director, U-Spatial at the University of Minnesota

Len Kne is the Associate Director of U-Spatial at the University of Minnesota. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Resource Management and a Master of GIS from the University of Minnesota.

Geoff Maas, MetroGIS Advisor at Metropolitan Council

Geoff Maas is the MetroGIS Coordinator at the Metropolitan Council and chair of the Geospatial Advisory Council’s Standards Committee. He has over 20 years professional experience in cartography, GIS, planning and information design. He also teaches as an adjunct professor of GIS and Data Visualization at the University of Minnesota.

Scott Mizsak, Technical Specialist at ATG USA

Scott Mizsak has been working as a Civil Application Engineer for CAD Technology Center, an Autodesk Platinum Partner in the Midwest since 2011. He has experience working with Civil Engineering, Surveying and Construction firms, providing them with training and support. He specializes in AutoCAD Map 3D, Infraworks and Civil 3D and is currently a certified WisDot Civil 3D Trainer. With the practical experience as a survey crew chief, he has valuable ability to apply the tools of the software to the real life issues that companies will face on a daily basis. Scott, a past speaker of Autodesk University, MNDot Survey Workshops, ACEC-WI, Midwest University, IDDEA, MNGIS Consortium, Minnesota Civil 3D User Group and CAD America, has worked with Autodesk products since AutoCAD Release 13. Scott has a Geography GIS degree from the University of Minnesota and was NSPS Level III construction certified when he work as a Survey Crew Chief.

Ladd Nelson, Midwest Sales Director at Carlson Software

Mr. Nelson joined Carlson Software in 2007 and is the Director of Midwest Sales for Carlson Software. He has been serving the Land Surveying and Civil Engineering markets since 1991 and has technical experience covering product development and design, sales, technical support along with product implementation and training. Mr. Nelson’s interest in computers and his Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville gave him the opportunity to pursue a career in software development for land surveyors and civil engineers. For over twenty five years, Ladd has been providing his clients with technical support and on-site training. His background also includes land survey experience and he is working to build a strong dealer/client base in the upper Midwest portion of the United States. Ladd has previously been an Officer and Board member for the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium ( and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Open Design Alliance (, a non-profit organization comprised of member companies who are committed to open industry-standard formats for the exchange of CAD data and to the maintenance of valuable data stored by design systems. In his spare time, he is actively involved in charitable fund-raising efforts, is an avid home-brewer and enjoys a relaxing game of golf and spending time outdoors on or near the Mississippi River with his wife and two children.

Logan Noess, EVP at Maverick Drone Systems

13 years experience setting up and flying Remotely controlled aircraft. Background includes NDSU AIAA vice president and pilot, Minnesota Valley Radio Control vice president with many top 3 finishes in MVRC competitions, and working on the family farm.

David Pemberton, Professional Land Surveyor at Sathre-Bergquist, Inc.

David has been in the land surveying field since 1993. He oversees the land surveying department, survey boundary analysis and review, and client consultation. He is proficient in all aspects of land surveying, including; ALTA Land Title Surveys, Boundary Evaluations, Subdivision Platting and Condominium Plats. He joined Sathre-Bergquist, Inc. in 2002 and is licensed to practice land surveying in Minnesota and North Dakota.

Conor Perra, UAS Operator at Maverick Drone Systems

Graduate from the University of North Dakota with a degree in unmanned aircraft systems operations. Commercial pilot that believes that unmanned systems can play a much larger role in the future.

Shaun Redford, Shareholder of Olson, Lucas, Redford, & Wahlberg, P.A.

Shaun Redford is an attorney with a primary focus on real estate and business law. He is a frequent speaker and writer on real estate law topics including boundary line disputes, access issues, and easements.

Dan Ross, Minnesota Chief Geographic Information Officer at Minnesota Geospatial Information Office

Dan serves as the MN Chief Geographic Information Officer and Director of the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo) under MN.IT Services. In addition, Dan serving as the President for the National States Geographic Information Council. Dan’s current focus is building partnerships within Minnesota and the national geospatial community to deliver foundational geospatial services and promote collaboration within the geospatial community and beyond.

George Southard, Geospatial Business Consultant

During his career, George has served as: Director of Business Operations - Analytical Surveys, International Sales Manager - Leica Geosystems, Director of Programs - Trimble, Inc. He is currently owner GSKS Associates LLC a private consulting firm specializing in the geospatial profession. George has a Master’s Degree in Geography/Cartography/Photogrammetry.

Rod Squires, Dept. of Geography, Environment and Society, University of Minnesota

Rod Squires is an Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of “A Striking Triumph of Geometry over Physical Geography: Vignettes of the Public Land Surveys” (St. Paul, Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors, 2010) a compilation of 40 articles written over a fifteen-year period – 1992-2007 – for Dis-closures and the Minnesota Surveyor, the official magazine of the Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors. Since 2007 he written 35 more, most recently in the upcoming Winter issue of the magazine.

Dan Stueber, Principal, Practice Group Leader at ISG

Dan is a licensed Land Surveyor and Civil Engineer practicing with ISG in Mankato, Minnesota. Dan is a past president of MSPS and a member of Chapter 1. Dan sits on the South Central College, North Mankato Advisory Committee for the Civil Engineering Technology and Geographic Information Systems programs.

Daniel Stong, Account Manager at RDOIC

Ryan Stovem, GIS Principal at St. Louis County Auditor's Office

Ryan has worked in Land Records and GIS since 2008. He was an early adopter of Esri Parcel Fabric for maintaining Cadastral data starting in 2011. He has help numerous other counties in the state and throughout the country to get them properly maintaining cadastral data. He currently works for the St. Louis County Aduitor's Office maintaining the county wide cadastral outside of the City of Duluth.

Pat has been in the Surveying industry for 26 years, 20 years for Winona County and 6 years currently with Douglas County. Pat is very passionate about Remonumentation. He is working towards establishing a County Surveyors in every county in Minnesota and remonumenting all the Section corners in the state.

Connie is a licensed land surveyor with Cornerstone Land Surveying in Stillwater, MN. She is a past president of the Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors.

Steve Zeets, CEO of Whirrx (pronounced Works)

Steve started his career after college as a rodman on a 3-man survey crew and is now a licensed land surveyor in Iowa. His 20+ years experience in Surveying, GIS, IT, and Photogrammetry led him to start using drones in 2011. He co-founded his first drone company in 2014 to provide mapping services with drones. He flew over 2,000 mapping missions for clients using drones to survey. Currently, he is the CEO and founder of Whirrx; which provides a turn-key system to surveyors so they can use drones as a tool for surveying, even when vertical accuracy of 0.05ft is required on road projects.

David Zenk, NGS Regional Advisor at National Geodetic Survey

David Zenk is a Geodesist with the National Geodetic Survey, serving MN, ND, SD, IA, and NE. He holds Bachelor Degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Land Surveying. He is currently serving as Editor of the MSPS “Minnesota Surveyor” magazine. He is licensed as a Registered Land Surveyor and Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota.
